With increases being seen in RPA inspections it has become vitally important for all farmers to hold the correct records so that they can produce them in the event of an inspection and avoid penalties which can be imposed if records are not kept up to date. Those farming or occupying land in nitrate vulnerable zones are advised to maintain accurate records and adhere to the Nitrate Pollution Prevention regulations 2008 which came into force on the 1st January 2009.
By the 1st January 2012 farmers must ensure that they have at least six months storage capacity for poultry manures and pig slurry and at least five months slurry storage capacity for other types of livestock manure. Also by this date farmers must ensure that the storage facilities meet the legal standards of construction and also assess whether any additional storage is needed.
At Madeleys we can assist with the calculation for this together with advice on the various farm and field records relating to livestock and application rates that should be collated per year in order to comply with the 2008 regulations. We can also provide various templates to accurately record farm and field data, so please do contact us if you need any assistance with keeping your NVZ records up to date.
