“Agriculture Bill ‘falls’ with suspension of Parliament

10 September 2019

The prorogation of Parliament for five weeks until 14th October 2019 has seen the long-stalled Agriculture Bill ‘fall’ (not being carried over to the next parliamentary session). The Bill reached Committee Stage last autumn but no further progress had been made since. This means that the Bill will need to be reintroduced in the next parliamentary session, with details set out in the Queen’s Speech on 14th October. With the proposed ‘agricultural transition’ period due to start in 2021, the Bill would need to receive Royal Assent by June 2020.”
