Back Behind the Scenes!

At Madeleys, people are at the heart of what we do – whether that’s our valued customers or our expert staff. We believe being a small, family-run business is a huge advantage to us as our clients benefit from close working relationships with the team. We are not a faceless organisation, we are a team of real people who have spent years in the surveying sector and years working and living in Shropshire.To enable you to get to know our staff and understand their roles at Madeleys, we’ve been running a series of profile blogs on each member of the team over the past few months.

 Today is the turn of Jane Mills, our administrator:

 Jane was initially asked to join the team by her brother (and our founder) Paul in 2008 to assist with a high workload.

A decade on, she is the first point of contact for many of our clients, as well as dealing with the company’s admin.

Before working at Madeleys, Jane spent most of her career working in surveying practices so she brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field through a mixture of her hands-on experience and training.

She’s also from a farming background and spent her early working years on the family farm so she has a real understanding of the life and practices.

“My daily tasks are varied,” she says. “I usually start my day by assessing what needs to be completed.

“I have five surveyors to look after by doing all their typing, preparing invoices, copying, emails and filing together with managing the phone calls into the office, which makes my days very busy. The day flashes by so quickly!”

Outside of work, Jane is engaged to Charlie and enjoys cooking, travelling, gardening, reading and growing her own vegetables ‘with a varying amount of success!’

And during work hours, interacting with clients is one of her favourite parts of the job.

“The most important thing that I enjoy about Madeleys are the clients, both old and new. I enjoy catching up with them when they telephone or when they pop into the office for a chat or for an appointment with one of the surveyors.

“I also very much enjoy working with my colleagues during the week and try to be as much assistance to them as I can be.

“Madeleys has grown tremendously since I first started with the company, which is very exciting, and the recent move to new premises has enabled us to expand further.”
