Potential Development Sites

Call for Potential Development Sites Notification

Shropshire Council is undertaking a ‘Call for Potential Development Sites’ exercise from Monday 23rd January

2017 to Monday 20th March 2017.

A ‘Call for Sites’ is a request to private; public; and voluntary sector bodies and individuals to submit potential development sites for consideration within the Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA).

The  SLAA  is  a  technical  assessment  of  the  capacity;  suitability;  availability;  and achievability (including viability) of land for development. The SLAA incorporates the process formerly known as the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) but now seeks to include land for other uses in addition to housing.

The SLAA represents a key component of the evidence base which will support the partial review of the Shropshire Local Plan.

Please  Note:  Whilst  the  SLAA  is  an  important  technical  document,  it  does  not allocate land for development or include all locations where future housing growth might  occur.  The  SLAA  simply  provides  information  which  will  be  investigated further through the plan-making process

What Type and Size of Site Should be Submitted?

The SLAA assessment primarily focuses on land for residential and employment development. However, where appropriate, it will also consider the merits of using sites for other uses and for mixed use developments. The SLAA assessment covers sites of over 0.2 hectares or those with sufficient capacity for 5 or more dwellings.

Any site which could be suitable for development and is over 0.2 hectares in size or has sufficient capacity for 5 or more dwellings can be submitted under the ‘Call for Sites’ exercise.

If you think you may have suitable land, now is the time to act.

Further details on submitting can be found on the Shropshire Council Website.
